Photo Organization In 3 Easy Steps Part 3

Step 3
Detailed Sorting
We are in the home stretch of this project.  The hard parts are over and now the enjoyable part are ahead.
You should have several piles or shoeboxes of roughly sorted photos.  Your task now is to do a detailed sorting of these individual piles.  Here are some suestions on how to tackle this task:

If you've started chronologically in decade format, you can now further sort the photos by the indivdual year in the decade, for instance, begin working with a single decade of photos, the 1980's.  Now group all the photos taken in 1980 together and all the photos in 1981 together and so on.  Once you have the individual years together it will be easy to sort by month within these small piles.  You can either spread out on a large table or work surface, or use a pre-labeled accordion filling system from the office supply store and sort into each month.  Drill down even further to put the individual months into chronological order as well.

If you have sorted by event, you can then further sort those events chronologically as described above.  You can also use the same chronoloical sorting system if your original system was by person or family unit.

This is the fun part!  This is the time to relax and reminisce over your photographs.  Gather the family to help you with this step and take the time to tell stories to your children about the people in the photos you are sorting.

This isn't going to be a quick process.  It will take time and patience to get through all those photos, Just take your time and have fun!

Just another tip.  When you get your photos developed or printed. make sure you right on the back of them photos the date and who is in the  photo or what it is because one thing is going thru those photos years later, you might not remember all that information.

After all that is done, you can keep them in those photo storage boxes with dividers, and then scrapbook them little by little, and I can help you do that,  you can come to one of my workshops and add your photos as soon as you complete the layouts and then just add them to your album.
and you can always order supplies from me onlline or contact me. at www.stampandscrap.ctmh.com

Photo Organization in 3 Easy Steps Part 2

Step 2

The rough sort

Decide how you want your photos to be sorted.  There is no right or wrong way to sort, figure out what works best for you and the photos you have collected.  Here are some ideas:
Chronologically ( 1970's, 1980's and so on)
By Family Group ( Smiths, Jones, Grandmas side, Grandpas side and so on)\
By Individual Person ( each sibling, each child and so on)
By Event ( Christmas, Birthdays, Family Reunions, and so on)

Once you've decided which categories will work best for your photos, write each category on a separate sheet of paper or sticky note.  Then attach those signs to the work table where you'll be doing the sort - or if its easier for you, use small boxes with the notes attached.  ( Imagine 6 shoeboxes lined up on your table with sticky notes attached to the front.)

Now start a rough sort of your photos.  Go quickly through this stage and simply shuffle photos into the box where they belong.  Don't dwell on each picture: just quickly place it where it belogns.  We'll do a more detailed sort later.  You'll have time to reminisce over pictures later too, dont do that now.  Right now your goal is to quickly sort through the big pile and begin creating smaller manageable piles.  Speed is the name of the game with this step!

I sort my photos by Event since I scrapbook each event!

Tomorrow we will discuss Step 3

Photo Organization in 3 Easy Steps Part 1

Step 1

Bring it all together
Determine where you want to do your photo sorting.  The kitchen table might look like the right place, but try to find a space that you can occupy over the next couple of weeks or days without having to clear off the workspace at the end of each session.  A spare bedroom with a table set up in the corner or even in your craft or office area might work.  clear off the large work area and prepare it for your organizational project.

Find your photos
Dig them out of the closet, pull them out of the drawers and cabinets, unpack the boxes stashed under the bed or in closets.  If you are a digital photographer, now is the time to get those photos developed/printed so you have something tangible to work with instead of a bunch of CD's.  Bring every photo together into one place.  Put all your gathered photos into 1 large box (or more if you need them) - leave then in their photo albums, leave them in the photo developer envelopes or the photo storage boxes you had them in originally.  At this stage we're just gathering photos - no sorting allowed!

Tomorrow we will talk about Step 2

Stack Of Photos - Perspective

Display Your Projects

Today is another day of organization.  I have decided to throw in different kind of organization.  Displaying your projects!  I love to display the projects I have made,   I Have a shelf in my room that I have a couple of shelves with my projects.  I change them out every once in  a while to show them off.  Even if it is just to me.  It gives me some inspiration!

Here is my display shelf!

Hope you enjoyed the week of organization!
I am going to clean up my scrap room and take some photos of it so you can see it all together!

Thanks for Stopping By!

Small Embellishment Storage

Today I am showing you where I keep all my small embellishments such as brads and buttons and thinks like that.  I purchased these at Joann's Craft Store in the jewelry section.  I think they are used for beads and things for jewelry making.  They are great for keeping your small embellishments in.  They come in 2 different sizes.  Also great for on the go so you do not spill all your brads all over or have to just throw them together.

Thanks for stopping by!
Come back again tomorrow for another Organization Idea!

Cardstock Organization

Today I am showing you how I organize my cardstock. I purchased the Cube Storage from Michaels.
I have a bag with a label of each color.  When I need a certain color I just grab the bag out of the cube.  Then when I am finished with a project, I put the scraps that can be reused back into the bag so I can use them next time,  This keeps my scraps organized and in the right place to be used again.  That way I do not put them somewhere else and forget about them.  I have the bags organized by color also.
I also keep  my paper packs in this cube storage.

Thanks for looking. I love comments!

Stamp Storage

Today I am showing you how I store all my CTMH Stamp Sets, Keep in mind this picture only shows some of my stamp sets, LOL  I purchased some Sterilite CD cases at the 99 cent store and they fit nicely inside.  I keep them on a shelf so I can easily grab them when I need one.  ( I think I need to purchase more because I have some sitting on the sides).
Thanks for looking!

Ink Pad/Marker Storage

Today I am showing my Ink Pad and Marker Storage.  This is a CTMH Inks Organizer (Z4131) 69.95, this organizer is well worth the money to store all your ink pads and markers to have at your reach, you can easily grab and move it around anywhere you are scrapbooking.

There is also a carrying case for going to crops (Z4136) 34.95 for the scrapbooker on the go!

You can purchase this organizer on my website at www.stampandscrap.ctmh.com

Ribbon Organization

The first organization post is about Ribbon Organization. I have tried all kinds of ribbon organization, I first kept them on the round things they came on and kept them in baskets, that was not working for me because I realized that I was not using very much ribbon, If I do not see it I forget about it. I came across some old mason jars when a neighbor of ours passed away and his family was cleaning out his garage, they gave a metal box to my husband and inside were these mason jars, my husband didn't know what to do with them, so I cleaned them up and held on to them and knew I could use them for something in my scrapbook room, then one day when I was reorganizing and realized that I never use ribbon because I could not see my stash. I decided to put the ribbon in jars by color, this worked great because I have them on a shelf right by my work table and can see them all the time. They are very bright colors and I love the way they are a decorative item in my scrapbook but I can also see them and tend to use more ribbon on my projects when I see them.

Here is a photo of my Ribbon Jars

Florentine Birthday Card

Here is a card I made with the Florentine Paper Pack.  Just love the colors in this pack.  I used the Cricut to make the card base and the sentiment in colonial white and the flower.  I also used the color ready ribbon and inked it with Goldrush ink.  I love the color ready ribbon, I plan to use it on some upcoming projects so look for it.  It is nice to be able to make it any color you choose.
If you would like to make this card at my next workshop please click on the workshop link and check out the details or email me at StampandScrapStudio@hotmail.com
